Fall From Grace
Welcome to the Live Journal!! Thanks to _cutlery, we're now up and running! *smooch*
My name is Tryg, I'm 29, I grew up on Vashon Island. I graduated high school in 1995, and liked to write music.
I recorded my first demo when I was 14, playing guitar and my buddy, Raven, sang. I sang backups sometimes. The first Demo we did, from a band called MIRTH, was about how Raven wanted to kill his girlfriend. The song "Microwaved" was about microwaving her head! Later, before we had finished tracking our EP, a good friend of mine died in a car accident. His name was Jared, and he was about to graduate...in a week!! I then found what later would be my doorway to my inspiration = my pain. I wrote an instrumental piece called "Last Hour". It still hurts to listen to that song today...
Our drummer, Alf, had a 4 track that we used to record our stuff on. He later bought an 8 track. That band broke up and was reformed as Bad Dose, hence Raven's drug use, and I formed another band, stealing the Alf! I called up my buddy Nathan Conant who played bass. We wrote like 12 or 13 songs, and recorded yet another demo, only this time I sang on it. This was my singing debut. Something I had always wanted to do, but never actually gotten the opportunity. I was always the "black sheep" out of all my musician friends..I think it's because I liked to party so hard! We eventually broke up, but on all good terms. Although I haven't talked to those guys in like forever, I know they're still playing music...I mean, I am! ;)
I used to play in another band for like a second with my good buddy Jorma Vik, who is now the drummer for The Bronx. His older brother Jules and I were very close, and still are today. I used to borrow their father Jim's records and take them home and record them on to tape. It was because of Jules I started to play the guitar!
Drew Church and I went to high school together, and were in debate. I won't lie here, I was a total fuck off in that class...Drew was not. He later ended up forming the band Droo Church.
Aaron Sprinkle also used to go to my same high school. He now records everyone for Tooth and Nail records. He used to play in a band with his brother Jesse, who used to play drums in Bell Bang Villa. I used to go to their shows on the island. They later changed their name to Poor Old Lu, and the last thing I heard Jesse was playing drums for Demon Hunter, but I guess that's behind the times as well...he's in some other band now!
Vashon Island is such a great place. It has spawned so much talent and inspiration...I pretty much think it's because everyone's dying to get off it and into the big city! :) At least, that's what it was for me! Bands like Misfits, The Cure, old Metallica, Nirvana Bleach, Anthrax, Poison, G'n'R, Slayer, Danzig and Beethoven were tapes I listened to frequently.
I used to have a picture of Nikki Sixx hanging on my wall. I remember saying "Mom, some day that'll be me!" I was like twelve.
Stay tuned. we're all gonna do an entry...and more to come about my past as well!!
